About this vehicle
The Renault Koleos is a mid-size SUV with a back seat built for adults. There is real legroom behind a tall driver, so teenagers and grandparents are not wedged in for the whole trip. The boot holds 458 litres with the seats up and 1690 litres folded, enough for a pram, a weekly shop, or a load of camping gear.
Under the bonnet is a 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine making 126kW and 226Nm, driving the front wheels through Renault's X-Tronic automatic. Official combined fuel use is 8.1 litres per 100km, dropping to about 6.7 on the highway. It runs on 91 regular unleaded and holds 60 litres. A run up the coast is one fill. It sits 210mm off the ground and tows up to 2000kg braked.
Inside, the touchscreen runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and dual-zone climate control is standard. So is the safety gear you want on a family car: autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, a reversing camera with guidelines, and front and rear parking sensors. ANCAP gave the Koleos five stars when it tested the car in 2017.
