About this vehicle
The MG HS Core is a mid-size SUV that seats five. The boot holds 463 litres with the rear seats up and 1287 litres with them folded, so a pram, a week of shopping or a boot full of sports gear all fit.
Under the bonnet is a 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 119kW and 250Nm, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Official combined fuel use is 7.3 litres per 100km on 95 premium unleaded, and the tank holds 55 litres. It sits 175mm off the ground.
The safety kit is standard rather than an option: autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control and road sign recognition. A reversing camera, rear parking sensors, air conditioning, keyless entry, push-button start, automatic headlights, automatic high beam, LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights are standard too, and the touchscreen runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. ANCAP tested the HS in 2019 and gave it five stars.
