About this vehicle
The Haval H6 Lux is a mid-size SUV with one of the roomiest back seats in its class. A tall adult can sit behind a tall driver, and the middle rear seat is usable because the floor is flat. The boot holds 600 litres with the seats up and 1485 litres folded, so a pram, a week of shopping or a boot full of sports gear all fit without planning.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 320Nm, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It runs on 91 regular unleaded and uses about 7.4 litres per 100km on the combined cycle. Australian road tests have come in close to that, between 7 and 8.5 litres depending on how much of the driving is city. It tows up to 2000kg braked.
Inside there is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument display, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, keyless entry and push-button start. Safety is where this one stands out for the money: seven airbags including one between the front seats, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and driver fatigue monitoring. ANCAP tested the H6 in 2022 and gave it five stars.
